Sailors may learn on a variety of boats, including Sunfish, RS Tera, RS Quest, and Hobie Wave. In addition to sailing lessons, camp will also incorporate drowning prevention, hiking, outdoor games, kayaking, canoeing, and paddle boarding.

Two-Day

Boater Safety Class

Optional Add-On Course

Hours: 9 am-3 pm

Session Duration: 2 days

Session Dates: May 29-30

Ages: 11-17

All Campers 11 years and older enrolled in Adventure Sailing are able to register for this optional add-on boater safety class. This two-day class will teach the Georgia DNR Boater Safety Course, allowing students to earn their state boater certification. Days will consist of the DNR workbook, followed by on-the-water lessons. Students will learn how to launch, maintain, and safely operate a small powerboat. By joining this class with a week of Adventure Camp, students will also be able to earn their Spirit of America Certification. (Another option is our week-long Spirit of America Class, which includes the curriculum of the two-day boater safety class, as well as teaches sailing on Hunter 15s, kayaking, canoeing, and paddle boarding. See further down for more details about the Spirit of America Class.)

Spirit of America

Youth Boater Education CLASS

Session Duration: 5 days

Session Dates: July 14-18

Augusta Community Sailing, in conjunction with Augusta Sailing Club, is excited to partner with Spirit of America Foundation- National Premier Youth Boating Education Program. Students will have the opportunity to obtain their Georgia Safe Boating Certificate and learn how to operate different types of watercraft including sailboats (Hunter 15s), paddle boards, kayaks, canoes, and motorboats, while participating in water-based activities that provide the opportunity to develop lifelong skills.  Based on a “learn by doing” program, students develop self-esteem, exercise teamwork, safe seamanship, boating and water safety practices, and demonstrate responsibility. This class it is taught by our ASC Sailing Instructors and Volunteers. All adults working with youth are background checked. In addition, ASC Instructors are required to be Safe Sport certified. Completion of this week-long class includes the opportunity for students to earn both their GA Safe Boating Certification and their Spirit of America Certification. (Another alternative would be to take a week of Adventure Sailing along with the two-day Boater Safety Class).
